The Story of The Longa House
Built in 1775, Longa House has stood through nearly 250 years of American history - long before modern roads, long before electricity, and long before the land surrounding it became what it is today.
The home was built for Jacob Longa, a German mercenary who became a prisoner during the Revolutionary War. After his release, rather than returning home, he made the decision to stay - settling here and building a life on this land.
Through ongoing research and investigation, we believe Jacob may have lived here with his wife - possibly Hilde or Helga - and anywhere from one to three children. While records from that time are limited, the fragments we’ve uncovered continue to shape our understanding of the lives that once filled this home.
Like many homes of its era, not everything was documented. Some stories were never written down. Others were lost over time.
And yet… something remains.
A Living Piece of the 1700’s
One of the most remarkable aspects of Longa House is how much of it still remains original.
The central chimney - once the heart of the home - still holds its original cooking fireplace and oven. The floors beneath your feet have carried centuries of footsteps. Even the original windows have remained intact, quietly framing the passage of time.
This is not a recreation or a restored version of history.
It is history - still standing.
Historic Land
This home once sat on a massive plot of land owned by Jacob Longa, who was considered a significant landowner in the area at the time.
Today, that original property has been divided over generations, now resting at approximately 2.18 acres.
And yet, traces of that legacy remain.
Just behind the house, a circular road now known as Jake’s Lane marks part of what was once his land. The surrounding neighborhood, Longa Farm Acres, still carries his name - a quiet imprint of the life he built here.
But beyond the history, many believe the land itself holds something more.
Over time, there have been consistent reports of activity not just inside the home, but outside as well - figures seen standing in the driveway, movement around parked cars, and the distinct feeling that something is passing through rather than staying.
Some believe this land acts as a kind of threshold - a place where energy, or spirits, are able to come and go.
Paranormal Activity
The Longa House is believed to be home to multiple spirits - some tied to the history of the home, and others whose presence is less easily explained. Their activity is not passive. It’s interactive, aware, and often impossible to ignore.
Guests have reported:
• Knocking on doors with no one there
• Doors opening on their own - fully, without explanation
• Footsteps moving through rooms that are completely empty
• Disembodied voices heard clearly and up close
• The unmistakable sensation of a breath or whisper near the ear - most often reported in the dining room
